Frequently Asked Questions

We know you’ve got questions… after all the subject of naturopathy remains a much discussed topic.

What are the origins of naturopathy?
Modern day naturopathy was pioneered in the early 19th Century by practitioners such as Austrian Vincent Priessnitz, the founder of the principles of hydrotherapy.

Towards the end of the century a German priest (Father Sebastian Kneipp) who practised various therapies treated an American named Benedict Lust with a combination of his herbal treatments and water cures. Lust then returned to the United States and founded the American School of Naturopathy, which became the basis for all naturopathic training and practice, as we know it today.

What therapies do you provide?
As well as weight loss and nutrition, Nu-Leaf naturopaths use herbal medicines to treat and repair the body.

What does naturopathy do?
Naturopathy works on strengthening the body’s natural defences.

Naturopathy promotes good health and wellness. Our role is to work with you, utilising a program which, not only promotes natural healing and wellbeing, but also helps you achieve set goals.

What can you treat and how can you help me?
From headaches to hair loss, depression to weight loss, Naturopaths can treat and heal a variety of ailments including:

  • allergies
  • arthritic conditions
  • asthma
  • back pain and back problems
  • constipation
  • depression
  • digestive complaints such as irritable bowel syndrome and ulcers
  • hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • menstrual and menopausal problems
  • migraines
  • skin conditions

There is no limit as to who should see a naturopath. Children, teenagers, young adults and parents can all find a visit to a naturopath very beneficial.

What does a consultation involve?
After your initial consultation (and depending on your problem) we will design a treatment path that meets your body’s needs.

This could range from recommending dietary changes, and encouraging ways of achieving a deeper level of relaxation to a full eating plan.

We may suggest ways to nourish and cleanse your body, removing it of toxins, by suggesting dietary changes that may involve avoiding certain foods, incorporating different foods or taking various vitamins, mineral or food supplements

I am currently taking prescribed medication. Will that be a problem?
Most of your health concerns can be supported using our natural therapies. We can incorporate your medication into our natural therapies. Remember it is always important to inform your doctor of all of your medications.
